Women in Finance Series
From Loss to Legacy, Meet Megan Kopka
In 2018, just shy of four years after her husband, Keith, passed away, Megan opened her own Registered Investment Advisor firm and is proud to be fee-only and independent. She knows from her vast lived experience how life planning, not only financial planning, is key for her clients. Megan's main objective is to help widows get to safety and security while they grieve and begin life planning techniques when ready.
Megan shared, "Widow is a vulnerable title initially. We are grieving and often alone; however, this does not mean we live here forever. There is a time when deep mourning or grieving can subside, and a widow begins envisioning a life path again."
There is a unique and much-needed niche for empathetic planning and spreading the truth about money. She doesn't stop at financial planning and is working to evoke change in IRS codes for "Qualified Widows" and survival benefits for widows and orphans from the social security administration.
Megan felt called to share her love and loss to support women nationwide through public speaking engagements on a national level for the Modern Widows Club, Inheritance of Hope, and The Retirement Summit. Megan serves as a community advocate for the Cape Fear community of Modern Widows Club and serves as the chair of the Golden Committee at the national level. For the second year in a row, the Modern Widows Club is the recipient of The State of North Carolina's proclamation recognizing International Widows Day, June 23, signed by Governor Roy Cooper, raising awareness about the organization and surrounding the struggles of widows, and their orphaned children, worldwide.
Kopka Financial is located in Wilmington, NC and supports widows nationwide.
